2012 Acura TL Rendered Speculation

I thought I would give the 2012 Acura TL a try after seeing a few spy photos from last month.

Based on what I could see in the spy shots, the main change would be a smaller front grill, with a similar style to the current RL and the upcoming TSX Sport wagon. The front bumper also gains an extra horizontal crease, which in my opinion now resembles the current MDX.

The smaller grill is a welcomed change though the revised front bumper makes it less aggressive and a bit Toyota Camry-ish. I also did a 2nd version of the grill without the extra lower pieces which I think I prefer.

Let me know what you think below.

UPDATE August 19 10:00AM: I’ve added three new renderings in the gallery below. I raised the new ”bumper line” higher and tried to push it forward a bit. Also the lower part of the new grill is now less visible. These changes make it more similar to the spy shots and in my opinion better looking. Rendering 02 will have the new updates but with the simpler grill. 03 has a modified, more aggressive lower bumper that I put on just for fun.

Good job on these renders; I think I prefer the second version more too. That new grill takes away from the boldness of the new TL style. Just going with a smaller grill does it for me.

The wheels are those of a 2010 TL A-SPEC …

The wheels are the HPT option from 2009 and probably 2010 (at least here in the US there is not true 2010 TL A-SPEC)

Acura used to have the best wheel designs, but for the most part they are pretty boring now. If they’d take the 19″ and make it in 18″ and offer some very good optional ones (for a reasonable price…please) that would help with the appearance. Wheels make a car. Of course they have to fix the grill but they’d simply not wrapped it onto the hood in the first place and it would have been 100% better from the start. I still want to buy one but if they don’t fix it soon it will be something else in my driveway next year and not an Acura.

I say “02″ is the best looking. Hopefully they give an option for the grill style.

I prefer 5 of 8 the finish and quality on this depiction is phenomenal. In addition I like how the lower front fascia is a bit indented and tappered to give it a swept back look. I also like the 2nd depiction as well; however not as much as the 5th

Most definitely less aggressive on the bumper with the smaller grill. The 01 version reminds me too much of a Ford Fusion and the curvature on the top makes it look scrunched. If one were to slice the picture of the 02 with just the front bumper, it could be easily mistaken with the M-or-RDX. The heightened bumper line definitely makes it appear similar to an SUV’s. Now 03 is an excellent cross between the TSX and the TL, and with the TSX being much less aggressive it is a good mix to help soften the TL. Still has the signature TL front, but the bumper line creating two equal areas gives it a much sportier style. I vote 03.
