Rumor: No Powertrain Upgrades with 2018 TLX A-Spec Package

Automotive News is reporting that the refreshed 2018 Acura TLX will offer an A-Spec package without “significant powertrain upgrades”. The report comes out of an Acura dealer meeting at last month’s 2017 NADA convention.

Based on the article, the three cars captured in the last batch of spy shots were of a 4-cylinder, a 6-cylinder, and an A-Spec model. The A-Spec package will add wheels, a rear spoiler, side skirts, front/rear bumpers, but won’t get a boost in power.

There’s no mention of any other performance upgrades, so the “Type-S” treatment that some were hoping for doesn’t seem likely.

With no news from Acura about the Chicago Auto Show which is just around the corner, expect the 2018 TLX to debut at the New York Show in April.

Well that’s disappointing. Infinity has 400 HP. Looks like Acura can’t keep up. I’ll stick with my 2016 Accord V6 Touring because it looks much better and costs $10k less than the not much differentiated TLX.

But it really shouldn’t be..I don’t think A-Spec has ever meant power upgrades. Now in the past, they used to mean better suspension tuning, but looks like it’s all just watered down appearance crap nowadays.

What Acura fails to understand is that people want to “feel” like they are driving a sports car that can compete with a Mercedes AMG. And Acura was on the right track with the “TypeS” division. Even if the car can’t compete with the AMG at least having a TypeS badge would be enough of a selling point for people to buy. The AMG, BMW “M” series, the Audi S
line are all performance divisions that are doing well. Scrap that Acura link shit and implement quad exhaust all across your line up add a type S badge change the fogs, and watch everybody trade in their foreign cars for Acuras.

They need to get rid of the ZF9 transmission. Even in the “improved” version of 2017 it is still a pig….oh, and I thought that it was “performing as designed” in 2015.

They need to dump the current TLX you can only put so much lipstick on a pig with an MMC. They need to get someone who doesn’t think a faux hawk and checkered pants are stylish and get someone who can –
    UPgrade the look
    Upgrade the interior quality
    OFFER more options – a hybrid, a 4cyl and a 6 cylinder
