Recap: NALM 2017 – Sacramento, CA

It’s hard to believe that 22 years after the Acura Legend was phased out, the model still holds a strong ownership base. It’s strong enough, in fact, that for the last 13 years, owners and enthusiasts have gathered once a year in areas spanning the entire country – as far east as New Jersey, as far south as Texas, and now as far west as Sacramento, California. Over 30 Legends converged on California’s capitol city over the weekend of June 7th through 11th, 2017, for this year’s National Acura Legend Meet (NALM).

The event was structured to include something for everyone, including a racetrack event, a scenic drive to Lake Tahoe, a visit to a local area dealership, and a BBQ hosted by the planning committee along one of Sacramento’s scenic rivers. Attending owners were predominately from California, but they also came from 6 other states including Florida and Michigan.

In attendance was one original owner, Ben Lin, who has had his Frost White 1992 LS coupe since he bought it new 25 years ago. Most of the Legends were generation two (1991-95) coupes, but one very special coupe was Dani Stir’s gen one 1990 LS, a showcar that was featured in the December / January 2001 issue of Lowrider Euro that turned many heads when it showed up at the BBQ on Saturday. Hand-built, custom awards were distributed that afternoon in a variety of categories. Capping off the event was a raffle, including a NALM first: An entire running, driving (and with cold a/c!) Legend LS 6-speed coupe was raffled off. Steven Reveal won the car with the single $100 raffle ticket that he had purchased.

The Legend truly does live on with this devoted group of enthusiasts who see themselves more as a tightly knit family than just as a car club. Many thanks to those who played a role in the planning and execution of yet another successful NALM. Photo credit on some of these images goes to other members of the community who contributed them to the Acura Legend Owners & Enthusiasts Facebook page, now 4,086 members strong and counting.

Some great looking cars in there! Glad the Legends are still going strong. Having owned 4 Legends, I can say without any doubt, they are some special vehicles, and will always remind me of Acura’s heyday. Thanks for sharing!
