Car and Driver: 2016 Acura MDX SH-AWD Instrumented Test

How does the 2016 Acura MDX’s new ZF nine-speed transmission improve over the old 6-speed automatic? Car and Driver‘s recently published Instrumented Test results show improved fuel economy and quicker launch times:

The MDX storms out of the hole from rest using a 20.4:1 overall ratio and sprints to 60 mph in 5.9 seconds, half a second quicker than the 2014 model we tested with the six-speed automatic. It then continues on to a 95-mph quarter-mile trap speed in 14.6 seconds, three-tenths more rapid than the 2014.- Ron Sessions, Car and Driver

Video: Next Generation Acura NSX Spied at Gas Station

Now that the NSX nears production we’re seeing more of the prototypes out and about on city streets. This latest video catches the NSX at a gas station in close proximately as it fires up and drives off. The video capture is actually pretty good quality considering it was probably a camera phone, and it gives us a some good audio of the engine and exhaust note. See the 1-minute video clip below.

Gallery: 2016 Acura ILX A-SPEC in Bellanova White Pearl

Another Acura, another road trip to the Canadian Rockies. This time around I had the pleasure of shooting a Bellanova White Pearl 2016 Acura ILX with Technology Plus and A-SPEC Package.

Refreshed for the 2016 model year, the new ILX received some relatively significant exterior updates. It features a new Jewel Eye LED Headlight design which adds some nice chrome styling details and uses a lower LED strip as daytime running lights. It’s also the first production Acura model to wear the new, slimmer grille which to me resembles a contoured wing or boomerang.

The A-SPEC Package further adds to exterior styling with fog lights, side skirts, a deck lid spoiler, and some funky 18-inch wheels. My only wish is that it was equipped with the front and rear Aero Kit pieces for the full effect.

All the photos in the gallery were shot in one day, in and around Alberta’s Jasper National Park.

We finally get to see some high quality images of a 2016 Acura ILX with the A-SPEC Aero Kit thanks to Vossen Wheels and Acura of Pembroke Pines. But it’s not just about the kit, this Catalina Blue Pearl Acura ILX looks extra aggressive with a nice drop and some sleek 19″ Vossen CVT Wheels. A shout out to Mike Chan from Acura of Pembroke Pines for heading up this build.

Video: Honda “I Like Sports” Commercial

Honda’s competitive spirit is alive and well in this 60-second video titled “I Like Sports”.

Released by Honda Japan, the video is a thrilling montage of sport clips that showcases Honda’s dedication to innovate and perform on many levels of motorsport. Vehicle cameos include the NSX, S2000, , N-ONE, Civic Type R and NSX Protoype. Musically, I enjoyed the use of “Also sprach Zarathustra” of 2001: A Space Odyssey fame, and of course Beethoven’s classic “Ode to Joy” which closes out the video.

  • Acura division sales leapt 5.3 percent in April, fueled by a steep 29.4 percent rise in sedan sales led by TLX with sales of 4,093 vehicles
  • Honda Pilot posts a substantial 28 percent gain even as an all-new Pilot and HR-V prepare to do battle in a hot truck market

American Honda Motor Co., Inc. today reported April 2015 Honda and Acura vehicle sales of 130,068 units, with Acura cars rising 29.4 percent on sales of 5,932 vehicles and Honda trucks gaining 2.0 percent on sales of 52,635 units for a new April record. Even as Acura SUVs continue to perform well, Acura sedans showed renewed strength as the superbly balanced TLX set the bar for the brand in April, with sales of 4,093 units putting the TLX firmly in the top sales tier of its segment and pushing total Acura sales up 5.3 percent for the month. Acura’s pace-setting luxury SUVs—RDX and MDX—also continued with brisk sales in April.

  • Total Acura brand sales gained 5.3 percent in April, with total sales reaching 14,874.
  • TLX drove the April increase on sales of 4,093 units for the month; sedan sales are up 29.4 percent since the beginning of the year.
  • Combined MDX and RDX sales continue to be a formidable force in the luxury SUV game—despite a changeover from 2015 to 2016 model production—with RDX sales reaching 3,972 and MDX finding 4,970 buyers in April for a total of almost 9,000 units for the month.

“The Acura TLX has renewed momentum that will continue to grow in the months ahead as it makes major inroads in the tough luxury sedan market,” said Mike Accavitti, Acura Division senior vice president and general manager. “Despite tight supply during the transition from outgoing 2015 models to newly refreshed 2016 models, the RDX and MDX continued to perform exceptionally well in April.”

Rendered: Next Generation NSX Racer

Here’s a recent rendering from TKF Renders of an NSX Racer based on the next generation NSX. What’s neat about this one is that it’s an actual 3D model, allowing us to see a detailed view of both the front and rear of the car.
