Hot Winter Wind: 2016 Acura RDX to Bow at 2015 Chicago Auto Show
Quick, luxurious, fun and practical new RDX to bring even stronger package to red-hot segment
– TORRANCE, Calif.
Coming off a record sales year as one of the best-selling SUVs in its segment, Acura’s RDX is set to move its already lofty bar even higher when the new 2016 model bows at the Chicago Auto Show on February 12. The new RDX sports a long list of styling and performance improvements plus desirable new luxury and safety features designed to further solidify its leadership in the compact luxury SUV segment.
The 2016 RDX artfully blends numerous fresh exterior and interior design elements to further enrich its sport and luxury qualities, all with a cohesiveness that speaks to its new capabilities. Already one of the quickest and most fuel-efficient V6-powered entry-luxury SUVs, the 2016 RDX takes the position a step further, adding important improvements to performance, dynamics, comfort and NVH.

Viral video rapping sensation Chelsea Ranger does her rendition of Blondie’s “Rapture” in Acura’s latest commercial “Drive Like A Boss”. The ad also features a boardroom cameo appearance by rap legend Fab Five Freddy. See the clip and a behind-the-scenes video below.
I’ll bet you haven’t seen the MDX or RDX driven like this before. Two wheel driving, burnouts and 180s were some of the stunts performed at the Acura China “A+ Experience” kickoff event last month. The “A+ Experience” is what Acura China has named their national test drive tour that will run throughout the year.
Acura’s dynamic luxury light truck duo, the 2014 MDX luxury sport utility vehicle and the 2014 RDX luxury crossover sport utility vehicle, have been named as Top Rated Vehicles by Edmunds.com.
“This honor from Edmunds confirms what the sales records achieved by MDX and RDX already demonstrate; Acura has the best one-two punch in the luxury marketplace,” said Mike Accavitti, Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Acura Division. “With the five-passenger RDX and new seven-passenger MDX, Acura continues to deliver an outstanding combination of exhilarating performance, great fuel efficiency, extraordinary luxury and value.”
The 2015 RDX crossover SUV goes on sale today with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price* (MSRP) starting at $34,895, Acura announced today. Ever popular with customers, the RDX has been a sales hit, posting its 22nd consecutive monthly sales record in February 2014. RDX again earned honors and won the 2014 ALG Residual Value Award by delivering the highest projected three-year resale value of any vehicle in the Premium Compact Utility Vehicle category.*
The 2015 RDX features a 273-horsepower 3.5-liter V-6 engine, a 6-speed automatic transmission and an all-wheel-drive system (available as a $1,400 option). The RDX exterior incorporates an aerodynamically efficient body with Amplitude Reactive Dampers and a motion adaptive electric power steering system.
Acura has been ranked 4th out of 31 brands in the J.D. Power 2014 U.S. Vehicle Dependability Study(VDS).
“The study, now in its 25th year, examines problems experienced during the past 12 months by original owners of 2011 model-year vehicles. Overall dependability is determined by the number of problems experienced per 100 vehicles (PP100), with a lower score reflecting higher quality.”
While the overall average number of problems per 100 cars has increased for the first time since 1998, Acura saw a decrease in problems from last year’s study, dropping from 120 PP100 in 2013 to 109 PP100 in 2014.
The Acura RDX was awarded highest rank in the Compact Premium CUV segment, while the Acura MDX ranked in the top three of the Midsize Premium CUV segment.
Most people won’t associate the 2014 Acura RDX with off-roading, but that’s not stopping Everyman Driver‘s Dave Erickson from punishing it through a muddy off-road test review at Washington’s Riverside State Park ORV Area. While it lacks the SH-AWD found in its big brother the MDX, the RDX’s All-Wheel Drive with Intelligent Control and 8.1 inches(205 mm) of ground clearance are enough to handle all but two of the steepest challenges in this video.

Acura MDX and RDX Win U.S. News & World Report 2014 Best Cars for the Money Awards
Acura MDX and RDX deliver value on a luxury Scale
02/12/2014 – TORRANCE, Calif.
Acura’s hottest sellers, MDX luxury sport utility vehicle and RDX luxury crossover SUV, have won U.S. News & World Report’s 2014 awards with MDX taking the “Best Luxury 3-Row Midsize SUV For The Money” award and RDX winning the “Best Luxury Compact SUV For The Money” category.
“The MDX and RDX continue to win accolades for their outstanding combination of exhilarating, performance, great fuel efficiency, and outstanding value on a luxury scale,” said Jeff Conrad, vice president and general manager of Acura Sales. “With the five-passenger RDX and new seven-passenger MDX, Acura has unquestionably two of the most competitive luxury SUVs in the market.”
The “Best Cars for the Money” methodology combines quality and value data into a composite score. Within each of 21 award categories, the vehicle with the highest score is named the “Best Car for the Money” in that category. Quality is measured by the overall score a vehicle achieved in the U.S. News car rankings at the time the awards are published. The rankings, updated monthly at www.usnews.com/cars, compare cars on the basis of safety, reliability and a consensus of industry experts’ opinions. Value is measured by a combination of a vehicle’s five-year total cost of ownership and the average price paid for the vehicle at the time the awards are published.
