Acura TL-SE Commercial: Best Kept Secret

A second round of ads for 2014 models have recently been uploaded by Acura USA. Both the ILX and RDX ads feature some neat cinematography and digital effects, but it’s the clever plot of the TL’s “Best Kept Secret” that comes out on top for me.

2013 Acura RDX Interior

2013 Acura RDX Interior

Completely redesigned for the 2013 model year, the second generation Acura RDX has recently been placed in WardsAutos’s 10 Best Interiors list. WardsAuto editors spent time with 46 models with new or significantly upgraded interiors, and judged them based on the following criteria: materials, ergonomics, comfort, safety, value, fit-and-finish and overall design.

Here’s what they had to say about the 2013 Acura RDX:

“The Acura RDX CUV, now in its second generation, secures its place with excellent fit-and-finish and an upscale sportiness that was lacking when the first version launched in 2006.

Editors rave about the RDX’s copious cargo hold, comfortable back seat and durable materials that should hold up well against the inherent abuse that comes from young families. Acura outsold Audi, Cadillac, Infiniti and Volvo in 2012 in the U.S., and the RDX interior demonstrates that Honda’s luxury brand can compete with the best.” – Tom Murphy, WardsAuto

Acura Receives ALG’s 2013 Residual Value Award for Best Premium Brand for Long Term Value

2013 Acura RDX earns residual award for Premium Compact Utility Vehicle

11/26/2012  - TORRANCE, Calif.,

Acura was named the Best Premium Brand for 2013 by ALG, which recognizes the entire Acura lineup for exceptional vehicle quality, strong brand desirability, and long-term reliability. The all-new 2013 Acura RDX performance-luxury SUV also ranked highest in the Premium Compact Utility Vehicle category. Since 2000, Acura has earned six model awards and three overall luxury brand awards from ALG.

As the leading provider of residual value information to the automotive industry, ALG’s annual Residual Value Awards honor the vehicles in each industry segment that ALG predicts will retain the highest percentage of their original price after a three-year period.

We are honored by ALG’s selection of Acura as Best Premium Brand for long-term value which helps demonstrate what’s smart about our ‘smart luxury’ brand values,” said Michael Accavitti, vice president of National Marketing Operations for the Acura brand. “With RDX earning a best in segment award for Premium Compact Utility Vehicle, ALG is confirming what our customers have been telling us by purchasing the all-new RDX in record numbers for the past six months.”

ALG determines the award winners through careful study of the competition in each segment, historical vehicle performance and industry trends. Vehicle quality, production levels relative to demand, as well as pricing strategies are among the key factors that affect ALG’s residual value forecasts.

“Acura receives the 2013 Premium Brand Residual Value Award through disciplined fleet and incentives strategies, along with intuitive packaging structure across the lineup,” said Larry Dominique, President of ALG. “Acura has been bolstered with effective new products like the all-new ILX and redesigned RDX and continues to provide a strong proposition of value and luxury.”

Flashback Friday: 2007 Acura RDX “Advancing the Curve”

SH-AWD: It's the Most Thrilling Way to Carve a Corner

SH-AWD: It’s the Most Thrilling Way to Carve a Corner

Pop quiz: Name all turbocharged Honda and Acura production-models that have ever been sold in North America.

Having trouble? That’s because there was only one: the Acura RDX.

The first generation Acura RDX debuted in the summer of 2006 as a 2007 model and became Acura’s first compact crossover SUV. Fitted with a 2.3L turbocharged engine pumping out 240 hp and 260 ft-lbs of torque, it was less powerful and smaller in size than its older sibling the MDX. But, when you throw in Acura’s torque vectoring SH-AWD system into the mix, it became a rare, fun-to-drive SUV that appealed to many enthusiasts.

This TV ad from 2007 tries to capture just how entertaining the SH-AWD equipped RDX can be. Because nothing says fun like riding a giant wave of asphalt!

Check out the thrilling ad from Acura in the video below.

Gallery: Acura China’s 2013 RDX

Acura China's 2013 RDX - Basque Red Pearl

The new formula for the 2013 Acura RDX seems to be working well in North America having posted record sales for the last few months. This year the RDX will also take a crack at the Chinese market as it joins Acura’s lineup as the new entry-level crossover.

Take a closer look at the Chinese RDX in this gallery from automotive site You might notice the Basque Red Pearl RDX is decked out with OEM accessories available here in North America: Roof Rail, Cross Bars, 18” wheels, and Sport Running boards. But, like most Chinese-spec Acuras, there are some subtle exterior differences. The front headlights get clear corners and are accompanied by headlight washers. In the rear, the missing amber from the front headlights seem to have found its way into the tail lights. Also on the rear bumper there appears to be parking sensors and a fog light(thanks junior) centered between the two lower reflectors.

Check out the photos below and let me know if I’ve missed anything.

2013 Acura ILX, RDX TV Commercials

The Entirely New Acura RDX

The Entirely New Acura RDX

Is there anyone out there who hasn’t seen the Acura ILX “Airport” and “Office” commercials yet? They honestly seem like the most aired TV spots of the summer. Which of course is great exposure for Acura and the new ILX, especially since the ads are so well done and catchy. It’s probably not so great for their marketing budget though, I’d imagine all those prime time spots don’t come cheap.

The two ads below for the 2013 Acura ILX and RDX I haven’t actually seen aired on TV yet, in fact I first viewed them on YouTube just a few days ago. They complete the five-part TV campaign from rp& I posted about last month.

Again you should notice that the spots for the ILX and RDX are done in the same style as the other three, a studio setting, dark hues, and a voice over. They’re quite the contrast from the upbeat and colourful ILX “Airport” and “Office” commercials, but on the other hand, some of them do feature some really cool driving scenes.

Check them out below or click here to see the spots for the 2012 Acura TL, TSX and MDX.
