Here’s another little spoiler before the official 2014 MDX Prototype debut next month. A couple of fresh snapshots show the camouflaged MDX out on the streets revealing more exterior and interior details. On the outside it looks like the new MDX will get a grille style similar to the 2013 ZDX, along with Jewel Eye headlights with a single row of larger jewels rather than the double stacked design seen on the RLX. Interior shots show a center console resembling the RLX’s dual screen set up.

Motor Trend has just posted some recent spy shots of the RLX prototype with minimal camouflage. The signature Acura grille and Jewel Eye headlights are distinguishable, but character lines have been taped up to remain ambiguous. Note that the article has labelled it a 2013 model, where I was under the impression the new RLX will debut as a 2014 model. The production Acura RLX is set to be revealed at the LA Auto Show later this month.

Following last week’s spy shots of the 2014 Acura MDX is this new video footage of the prototype returning to the Nürburgring for vigorous testing. Earlier this year in June the MDX prototype was previously spied on the Ring, but well hidden under heavy camo sheets.

This is the best look to date of the next-generation MDX, caught at multiple angles with just the thin layer of psychedelic camouflage. The audio here is pretty clear too, just listen to the engine scream at about the 0.33 mark.

Motor Trend: Spotted! 2014 Acura MDX

There’s a new batch of 2014 Acura MDX spy shots floating around the web, now with even less camouflage! The latest news and photos come via Motor Trend.

From the shots we see that the next generation MDX retains a similar body shape, but gets new front styling and an updated Acura grille like that found on the 2013 RDX and ZDX. A closer look reveals what could be Acura’s new Jewel Eye™ LED headlamps, which is expected to first appear on the production 2014 Acura RLX. Reports suggest the 2014 MDX will get Honda’s new direct-injected EarthDreams V6 and the new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD® system.

Photos of a 2014 Acura MDX test mule have recently been shot by the KGP Photography crew in America. It seems the California heat had caused it to shed some of the heavy outer camo, leaving us with a better look at the new grille, though still covered by a second layer of psychedelic camo.

“Acura engineers ventured to the heat of the California desert to test a prototype for the 2014 MDX. The 120-degree heat encouraged the removal of some of the MDX’s front camouflage, giving us our clearest look yet at its grille, and lower air-intake. The new grille looks very similar to the grille-work spotted on prototypes for Acura’s all-new RLX.

Our latest shots of the MDX give us a new sense what appears to be a more arched, flowing greenhouse. While there are still some sharp-edged elements visible through the camouflage, we suspect that the new MDX may have a bit more fluidity to its shape.” – KGP

Notice the shape of the grille looks a bit “squared” and less sharp than some of the current Acura models.

Acura MDX Prototype at the Nürburgring

There’s no better place to develop a vehicle’s performance than on Germany’s world famous Nürburgring. Acura Engineers continue to push the prototype through the grueling track to ensure the next-generation Acura MDX will stay ahead of the competition when it is finally unveiled next year.

The latest video of the MDX Prototype comes from international site worldcarfans.com. The video is of higher quality than the one posted earlier this week so we get a slightly better look at some of the lines as the camo sheet pushes against the front face.

Acura Spy Shots

It’s good to know the new Acura flagship is in development, and thanks to Brenda Priddy & Company we get to see that the prototype is ready for testing.

Over at autoMedia.com they’ve got shots posted of the camouflaged RLX prototype. The vehicle is under full wrap, but we can still make out a few features that have made it over from the concept such as the Jewel Eye headlamps and front fender arches. There looks to be some revisions to the lower bumper, the chrome strips are now gone and new inlets have taken its place. We unfortunately only get two photos, but overall the dimensions look great and progress seems to be headed in the right direction.

MDX Prototype Spied on the Nürburgring

After being spotted last month in Germany, the camouflaged SUV pegged as the next-generation MDX took to the Nürburgring for testing. MotorAuthority has posted a video of the “2014 Acura MDX” powering through some corners on the track known as “The Green Hell”.

It wouldn’t be a first for the MDX, in developing the current MDX model Acura engineers spent some time on the Nürburgring honing the vehicle’s suspension, brakes and steering. It’s probably one of the reasons why the MDX is one of the best handling SUVs on the the market.

MotorAuthority anticipates the new MDX will go on sale in the second half of 2013 as a 2014 model and could be offered as a hybrid. Could they have been testing the new Sport Hybrid SH-AWD system?
