Although Highway 93 was given the name Icefields Parkway for its abundance of glaciers, there are many reasons why this route is considered one of the most scenic drives in the world. Connecting Alberta’s Banff National Park and Jasper National Park, this 232 km (144 mile) stretch of road combines jagged mountain peaks, sweeping valleys, turquoise hued lakes and curious wildlife into one spectacular journey. It’s estimated that over a million people drive the parkway each year to marvel at its dramatic and diverse landscape.
Taking the Scenic Route Through Alberta’s Rockies
Anyone who has spent some time in the province of Alberta, Canada will likely have travelled between its two largest cities, Edmonton and Calgary. The road most travelled is Highway 2, at under three hours it’s the most direct route if you want to quickly get from one city to the other.
After picking up a 2014 Acura MDX loaner from Acura Canada’s Calgary office one June morning, I hopped onto Highway 2 towards Edmonton, only to exit off after just a few minutes. I had already decided weeks beforehand that I wouldn’t be taking Highway 2 North. I was Westbound, towards the majestic Rocky Mountains of Alberta. This detour would eventually lead me to Edmonton, but not before experiencing a road trip through one of the most scenic drives in in the world: Banff to Jasper via Highway 93, also known as the Icefields Parkway.
The Megan Racing RV6 Acura MDX recently completed the One Lap of America, finishing 25th overall out of 69 entrants. According to the Honda Manufacturing of Alabama Race Team Facebook page, the MDX pulls 0.965 g on the skidpad and runs the quarter mile in 13.9 seconds.
I’ll bet you haven’t seen the MDX or RDX driven like this before. Two wheel driving, burnouts and 180s were some of the stunts performed at the Acura China “A+ Experience” kickoff event last month. The “A+ Experience” is what Acura China has named their national test drive tour that will run throughout the year.

If you’re wondering what 22″ wheels would look like on the 2014 Acura MDX look no further. The folks over at Acura of Pembroke Pines put a fully accessorized 2014 Acura MDX SH-AWD on 22″ Vossen CVTs. All other things aside, I think this setup looks fantastic.
Also pictured is a 2014 Acura RDX sitting on 20″ Vossen CV5s.

The “Best Cars for the Money” methodology combines quality and value data into a composite score. Within each of 21 award categories, the vehicle with the highest score is named the “Best Car for the Money” in that category. Quality is measured by the overall score a vehicle achieved in the U.S. News car rankings at the time the awards are published. The rankings, updated monthly at www.usnews.com/cars, compare cars on the basis of safety, reliability and a consensus of industry experts’ opinions. Value is measured by a combination of a vehicle’s five-year total cost of ownership and the average price paid for the vehicle at the time the awards are published.
