Acura TL Wins “Best Cars for Families” Award From U.S. News & World Report
2013 Acura TL named Best Upscale Midsize Car for Families
03/12/2013 – TORRANCE, Calif.
The 2013 TL, Acura’s performance luxury sedan, has been named “Best Upscale Midsize Car for Families” by U.S. News & World Report in its 2013 “Best Cars for Families” awards.
“The Acura TL offers the ideal blend of performance, comfort and safety, resulting in a luxury sedan that’s a smart choice for families,” said Mike Accavitti, vice president of national marketing operations. “The TL provides parents with the performance they desire in a luxury sedan paired with a well-appointed interior, top safety ratings, a host of standard Acura technologies and spacious second row seating that is ideal for clients and children.”
The “Best Cars for Families” awards combine quality, size and family-friendly features into a composite score. Quality is measured using a weighted average of scores from the U.S. News rankings at the time the awards are published. The rankings compare cars on the basis of safety, reliability and a consensus of automotive critics’ opinions. Size is based on a vehicle’s seating capacity and interior space. For family-friendly features, U.S. News factors in the availability of features deemed to be helpful to families by its editors.
We’ve seen the Acura TL in Marvel’s film The Avengers, but with this special car, we see the Avengers on the Acura TL. Clearly this isn’t a S.H.I.E.L.D. Edition Acura TL, this one of a kind TL features Avengers character artwork hand-drawn by talented comic book artist Humberto Ramos. Working from an Acura Mexico dealership, Humberto spent the past few days applying his creative touch to the vehicle’s exterior. With Humberto’s distinct artistic style, the black “inked” characters look amazing stretched across the sides and on the front hood of the white Acura TL.
Hopefully there will be additional info and photos to come, but if you’re looking for a better view of the artwork, check out the video below.
It’s a new year, and for the first gallery of 2013 I’ve picked a model that surprisingly hasn’t yet been featured on Acura Connected. The third generation TL is one of the most popular Acuras ever built, and even today some say it’s still the best looking Acura sedan to date.
JJ’s Nighthawk Black Pearl 2006 Acura TL doesn’t disappoint, it keeps that clean and classy OEM look, but also adds subtle style with tasteful features and an aggressive stance.
Here’s a full list of mods:
19″ WORK Equip wheels • ATLP Exhaust • Tein SS • ASPEC lip kit • Progress rear sway bar • AEM intake • blacked out headlights • HID kit • OEM visors • RV6 strut bar • Ingalls camber kit • Accord fog lights

Four additional Acura models earn TOP SAFETY PICK ratings
12/20/2012 – TORRANCE, Calif.
The 2013 Acura TL luxury performance sedan is among the first vehicles to receive the highest possible safety rating of TOP SAFETY PICK+ from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) under its more-stringent testing guidelines that now include the new small overlap frontal crash test. The IIHS’ small overlap frontal crash test is designed to simulate a collision between a vehicle and a fixed object, such as a tree or utility pole, where only 25 percent of the vehicle’s front structure is engaged by the opposing object.
In addition to the TL achieving TOP SAFETY PICK+ rating, four additional Acura vehicles have received TOP SAFETY PICK ratings from the IIHS. The Acura ILX, TSX, MDX and RDX have all earned the top rating of GOOD in all four rating areas, including the more rigorous roof-strength test.
The new IIHS small overlap frontal crash test involves a collision between a fixed five-foot-tall rigid barrier and a vehicle traveling at 40 miles per hour. This frontal impact test focuses stress on a narrow section of the vehicle, outside of the side frame, which is typically the primary energy absorbing structure in frontal crashes, and requires a strong cabin structure. According to a 2009 study by the IIHS, small overlap crashes accounted for nearly 25 percent of frontal crashes resulting in a serious injury or fatality. The Acura TL was the first of two vehicles to achieve the highest rating of GOOD in the small overlap frontal crash test.
SHARP. That’s how I would describe Alan’s White Diamond Pearl 2009 TL in one word. White and silver colored cars do it best, they tend to bring out all the angles and lines on a vehicle, and the 4G TL has got plenty of them. The RonJon grille accentuates the sharpness of the front design, and in this case, is actually a nice compliment to the design of the Vossen VVS082 wheels. I also love some of the more subtle features on Alan’s car, like the blacked out headlights and red tail lights which are a nice contrast on white.
The Acura TL made Forbes’ recent list of top 10 Most-Reliable Used Cars based on studies from Consumer Reports and J.D. Power and Associates. The list identifies vehicles specifically from the 2008 and 2009 model years, with high scores in dependability and long-term reliability.
“As with all of the vehicles in our top 10 list of most-reliable used cars, the model-year 2008 and 2009 versions of the midsize Acura TL luxury sedan received top grades for long-term durability from both Consumer Reports and J.D. Power and Associates owner surveys and high marks in initial quality and performance testing. The TL combines elements of comfort and performance with a sporty demeanor. The 2008 version can be found with either a 258-horsepower 3.2-liter V6 or a stronger 286-horsepower 3.5-liter V6. The TL was redesigned for 2009 and featured a 280-horsepower 3.5-liter V6 as the base engine, with a 306-horsepower 3.7-liter V6 in the SH-AWD all-wheel drive model. The TL remains attractively styled inside and out (though the pronounced front nose design on the 2009 – pictured here – is a matter of taste) and affords ample comfort for both front and rear-seat passengers, with stability control and many amenities included.” - Forbes.com
Vossen Wheels has really been pushing Acura lately, the latest gallery features yet another TL on their CV2 wheels. No complaints from me, I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love Vossen shoots. This one is a bit special though because it marks the first time Vossen has produced a video for an Acura.
The featured Basque Red Pearl TL was owned by Brian (aka Nexson) at the time of the shoot, but sadly he has since parted ways with the vehicle. There’s a super long progression thread over at AcuraZine on Brian’s TL, which covers a unique grille conversion, the whole front end conversion, and ultimately its dismantling. Check out the progress thread on AcuraZine by clicking here.
Here’s a short list of mods from Brian: Front 2012 conversion • A-spec OEM kit • SPC front and rear camber kit • TEIN SS coilovers • Vossen CV2 - F: 20×9 / R: 20×10.5 • Front and rear rolled fenders
Don’t miss this Vossen Wheels/Acura TL gallery and video combo below.
