Update April 9, 2024: Acura has announced that their new gateway model SUV will debut in early 2025, and is officially named the Acura ADX.

For those who aren’t familiar with the Acura CDX, it was a subcompact luxury crossover SUV produced in China from 2016–2022, for the Chinese market only. Based off the second-generation Honda HR-V/Vezel, it came in FWD and AWD configurations, an 8-speed dual-clutch transmission, an upscale interior and an attractive Acura-styled exterior. From 2018 it was also offered with a two-motor “Sport Hybrid” powertrain mated to an E-CVT.

Given Acura’s success with SUVs in North America, an entry-level Acura crossover would make sense, and many are wondering why there isn’t one already. Well for those holding their breath, it seems we’re finally getting a new Acura small crossover. Today’s press release from American Honda offered some promising yet limited info on the new model: “An all-new Acura crossover will debut later this year, positioned at the gateway of the lineup alongside the Integra.”

While this doesn’t necessarily mean it will be called the CDX, as an entry-level crossover it is anticipated to share similarities with the third-generation Honda HR-V. Expect a nicer interior, more luxury features, and more performance. The current Honda HR-V tops out at 158-hp from a 2.0-liter I4, so we hope to get the Integra’s 200-hp turbocharged 1.5-liter I4 paired with a CVT, as a base. A Type S variant is always a possibility with Acura, but with limited engine and transmission combinations currently available, it’ll be interesting to see what they can come up with.

With a debut still coming, the new Acura crossover will likely be a 2025 model-year and will go on sale later this year or early next year. Expect more information in the next few months.
