Audi A7 vs. Acura TL Rematch
Driving Sports TV: Audi A7 vs. Acura TL Rematch

In a rematch from a previous Driving Sports episode, round two of Acura vs. Audi brings us an AWD duel between the 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD and the 2012 Audi A7 Quattro. In the first episode we saw the 2011 Acura TL with a slightly quicker time over the 2011 Audi S4; but with a newer TL and an Audi A7 being used instead of the S4, we may get different results on a smaller, more technical road course.

Here is the breakdown from MSN Autos:

2012 Acura TL 6-Spd MT SH-AWD w/Technology Pkg

Base Retail Price(MSRP): $42,885
Standard Engine: 3.7L 305 hp V6
Horsepower: 305 @ 6300 RPM
Torque (lb-ft): 273 @ 5000 RPM
Transmission: 6-Speed Manual Overdrive
Curb Weight – Manual (lb.): 3889

2012 Audi A7 3.0T Premium Sedan quattro

Base Retail Price(MSRP): $59,250
Standard Engine: 3.0L 310 hp V6
Horsepower: 310 @ 5500 RPM
Torque (lb-ft): 325 @ 2900 RPM
Transmission: 8-Speed Automatic Overdrive
Curb Weight – Automatic (lb.): 4210

Can the Acura TL offer competitive AWD performance at its price point when compared to the Audi A7? Watch the video below to find out.

RoadflyTV 2012 Acura TL Advance Video Review

RoadflyTV Reviews the 2012 Acura TL Advance

RoadflyTV‘s Ross Rapoport shares his thoughts on the 2012 Acura TL Advance in this latest video review. While not the 305-hp SH-AWD 6-Speed Manual that he wanted to test, the base 280-hp engine turned out to be “a lot hairier and nastier” than he expected. The interior also impressed, which brought Ross to go through and show us all the neat storage compartments found up front. It’s not something we usually see in a review, but I actually found it was kind of interesting.

Acura Earns Three IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK Ratings

Posted by   on December 15th, 2011 No comments

Official release from www.acuranews.com:

Best selling Acura TSX, TL and MDX receive IIHS accolades

12/15/2011 – TORRANCE, Calif.

Acura today announced that three of its best selling models received the highest possible safety rating of TOP SAFETY PICK from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) under its more-stringent testing guidelines implemented last year.

The Acura TSX sedan and wagon, TL and MDX earned the highest-possible score of GOOD in all four ratings, including the more rigorous roof-strength test. According to the IIHS, vehicles rated good for rollover protection have roofs more than twice as strong as the current federal standard requires. The IIHS TOP SAFETY PICK award recognizes vehicles that do the best job of protecting vehicle occupants in front, side, rollover, and rear crashes based on ratings in the Institute’s evaluations.

All 2012 Acura models utilize the Advanced Compatibility Engineering™ (ACE™) body structure. ACE™ is an exclusive body design that enhances occupant protection and crash compatibility in frontal crashes. The ACE™ design utilizes a network of connected structural elements to distribute crash energy more evenly throughout the front of the vehicle. This enhanced frontal crash energy management helps to reduce the forces transferred to the passenger compartment.

Standard safety equipment on all Acura models include Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control, an anti-lock braking system (ABS), dual-stage/multiple-threshold front airbags, front-side airbags with passenger side Occupant Position Detection System (OPDS), side curtain airbags for all outboard seating positions, front seats with integrated active head restraints, front seatbelts with automatic tensioning system and load limiters, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

About Acura
Acura offers a full line of technologically advanced performance luxury vehicles through a network of 272 dealers within the United States. The 2012 Acura lineup features six distinctive models including the RL luxury performance sedan, the TL performance luxury sedan, the TSX sports sedan and Sport Wagon, the turbocharged RDX crossover SUV, the MDX luxury SUV and the ZDX four-door sports coupe.

Motoring TV 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD Video Review

Motoring TV 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD Elite Review

Graeme Flethcher of Motoring TV takes a look at the Canadian 2012 Acura TL SH-AWD Elite in this recent YouTube upload. The Elite package is the top level TL in Canada, equivalent to the US Advance package which includes upgrades such as 19″ wheels, the Blind Spot Information System and ventilated front seats. There’s no surprise that the 2012 TL’s refreshed styling and SH-AWD system continues to impress in this video review below.

“Test Drive of the 2012 Acura TL. The sophisticated all wheel drive system doesn’t fool around with the 3.7L, 305 horse power engine putting a lot of power to the wheels.” – Motoring TV

2013 Acura TL Coupe Rendering

2013 Acura TL Coupe Rendering

It’s been a while since Acura has offered a sporty two-door coupe in its lineup; the last model being the Acura RSX discontinued in 2006. Before that there was the Acura CL which ended in 2003, the Acura Legend Coupe ceased in 1995, and we can’t forget the Acura NSX which was last built in 2005.

While there is still no word on when the drought will end, let’s take a moment to visualize the idea of an Acura TL Coupe. I took the current 2012 TL and chopped the doors, lowered the suspension and tweaked the front end to be a bit more aggressive. If they could shorten the dimensions and drop some pounds, I think it would be a great competitor to the G37 and even the 3-Series coupe variants. Not to mention it would inject a little more life into the sporty side of Acura.

What do you think of the Acura TL Coupe?

2004 Acura TL

October 10, 2011 brings us Thanksgiving Day in Canada, and a clever Top “10″ list from Motor Trend which includes the 2004 Acura TL:

“On this tenth day of the tenth month of the year, we’ve gathered 10 cars that would easily get a perfect 10 when it comes to good design, yet are no more than $10,000 nor over 10 years old. In alphabetical order, here are our choices:

2004 Acura TL – Who would have ever guessed that something based on a Honda Accord could look so slick? The polished styling of the last-generation TL has aged well since it first debuted almost a decade ago” - Motor Trend
