The 2013 Acura TL goes on sale today with a manufacturer’s suggested retail price (MSRP) starting at $35,905. Boosting its value on a luxury scale, the TL luxury sedan recently earned the top-level rating of GOOD in the new Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS) small overlap frontal barrier crash test.

The new IIHS small overlap frontal barrier crash test is designed to simulate a collision between a vehicle traveling 40 miles per hour and a fixed object, such as a utility pole, where only 25 percent of the vehicle’s front structure is engaged by the opposing object. According to a 2009 study by the IIHS, such small overlap crashes accounted for nearly 25 percent of frontal crashes resulting in a serious injury or fatality. The TL was one of only two vehicles to achieve the highest rating of “Good” among a group of 11 models that were the first to be tested under this rigorous new crash test protocol.

The 2013 TL is offered with two drivetrain configurations, a front-wheel drive version and an all-wheel drive version. The front-wheel drive TL is powered by an all-aluminum, 3.5-liter, 24-valve, VTEC® V-6 engine that produces 280 horsepower and 254 lb-ft of torque. The all-wheel drive version of the TL utilizes Acura’s Super Handling All-Wheel Drive™ (SH-AWD®) system and comes equipped with an all-aluminum,  3.7-liter, 24-valve, VTEC®  V-6 engine that produces 305 horsepower and 273 lb-ft of torque. Both versions come equipped with a Sequential SportShift 6-speed automatic transmission as standard. For the enthusiast, a 6-speed manual transmission is available for the 2013 TL SH-AWD equipped with the Technology Package.

The 2013 TL comes well-equipped with standard features such as Xenon HID headlights, halogen fog lights, a power moonroof, a 276-watt audio system with 8-speakers, and aluminum wheels, sized at 17×8 inches for the TL and 18×8 inches for the TL SH-AWD. The Technology Package adds features such as an 8-inch VGA display, Acura Navigation System with 60 gigabyte hard disk drive, perforated Premium Leather seating, AcuraLink Real-Time Traffic with Traffic Rerouting™ and 440-watt ELS Surround® Premium Audio System with 10-speakers. The Advance Package adds features such as heated and ventilated front seats, Blind Spot Information System, and upsized aluminum wheels, sized at 18×8 inches for the TL and 19×8 inches for the TL SH-AWD.

Standard safety equipment on all Acura models includes Vehicle Stability Assist™ (VSA®) with traction control, ABS, dual-stage/multiple-threshold front airbags, front-side airbags, side curtain airbags for all outboard seating positions, front seatbelts with automatic tensioning system and load limiters, Tire Pressure Monitoring System (TPMS) and Daytime Running Lights (DRL).

The 2013 TL is produced using domestically and globally sourced parts at the Honda of America Manufacturing Marysville Auto Plant1 in Marysville, Ohio, recipient of the J.D. Power and Associates’ Silver Plant Quality Award in its 2012 Initial Quality Study.
