If you’re an 80s kid like me, you probably grew up with some of the classic G1 Transfomers characters like Optimus Prime, Bumblebee, Hot Rod, Ratchet and Jazz. A few of them made appearances in other series and films, but to me their G1 cartoon personas will always be the most iconic.
So just for the heck of it, I decided to match up some of the original G1 Autobots with Acura models. AI managed to pump out some super cool Michael Bay-esque designs and I made additional tweaks with my photoshop touch. After going through countless AI renders, here are my top Acura x Autobot mashups:
Acura Integra Type S x Bumblebee
Everyone’s favorite Autobot, Bumblebee was fearless and loyal, but small in stature. It’s only natural that he takes the form of the Acura Integra Type S. How about that Tiger Eye Pearl paint job?
Acura TSX x Cliffjumper
I don’t remember Cliffjumper all that well, but he and Bumblebee looked like brothers. They were the same size, so I matched him up with a modified TSX. AI actually made the TSX as a two-door coupe… oh well!
Acura TLX Type S x Jazz
One the coolest looking Autobots, Jazz kicked ass with his the sweet visor shades and also turned into a Martini Porsche 935. Here he takes the form of a white TLX Type S, racing stripe included.
Acura RDX x Rachet
The Autobots chief medic, Rachet, originally took the form of a white Nissan ambulance van. With the vehicle size in mind, I’ve selected the RDX as his vehicle. He loses cargo space, but gets upgraded with SH-AWD and some badass wheels.
Acura NSX x Hot Rod
One of my all-time favorite G1 characters, Hot Rod. He transformed into a wedge-shaped Cybertronian race car, so he takes the title of NSX. The car and robot design that AI rendered was perfect – especially with the huge rear wing and flames.
Acura MDX x Optimus Prime
Admit it, you cried when he died in the 1986 animated movie. As the leader and the largest Autobot vehicle, Optimus takes the form of an MDX – one of Acura’s core models for the last 22 years. The design I chose ditches his iconic red paint, but the menacing yet heroic robot design still does it for me. The MDX gets an upgrade and futuristic styling as well… straight out of Cybertron!
