It’s been confirmed that the Acura MDX Type S will It’s been confirmed that the Acura MDX Type S will no longer be offered after the 2026 model year.

Reports suggest the pause is tied to uncertainty surrounding new EPA standards for the 2027 model year, which could impact the Type S and its more powerful 355-horsepower 3.0-liter turbocharged V6.

For 2027 and beyond Acura will apply many of the premium features and styling elements from the Type S to other MDX trims.

With the MDX Type S on hiatus and the TLX Type S discontinued in 2025, the Integra Type S will be the only Type S model remaining in Acura’s lineup.

As for the future of Acura performance variants, the automaker provided this statement to Road & Track:

“Additionally, outstanding performance will remain a key focus of the Acura brand in the future. As previously announced, we will begin introducing hybrid-electric models to the Acura lineup in the coming years, delivering new levels of performance for the brand.”

What do you think Acura’s future Type S lineup could look like?

According to MotorTrend, a recent press roundtable According to MotorTrend, a recent press roundtable with Acura executives offered a glimpse at where the brand is headed, and there’s some good news if you love cars.

“The plan is to keep sedans in our lineup,” said Gary Robinson, Acura’s vice president of auto strategy. “They’re core to our lineup. If sedans in general went away entirely we’d have to reevaluate, but the segment has stabilized.”

There weren’t any specifics on which sedans might be coming, but the Integra is expected to get a replacement around 2029.

The next MDX has reportedly been pushed back to 2031, with the ADX following in 2032. But that doesn’t mean they’ll be sitting around unchanged until then. Both the ADX and Integra could get some mid-cycle powertrain updates along the way.

And there could be some fun stuff on the horizon. Acura isn’t ruling out putting its striking Nexera coupe into production, with gas, hybrid or EV power all potentially on the table depending on what customers want.

If you could bring ONE Acura car model back, which one would it be? TLX? NSX? LEGEND?
