One of North America’s longest-running street races took place this past weekend, and almost everywhere you looked you saw Acura. We spent a day at this year’s Grand Prix of Long Beach, with Acura as the new title sponsor for 2019.
Unfortunately, we missed out on Saturday’s BUBBA burger Sports Car Grand Prix race, where two Acura Team Penske ARX-05s placed second and third. We did make it to the big race on Sunday – Race #4 of the 2019 NTT IndyCar Series.
As expected, Acura had a heavy presence at the event. Large Acura logos dominated the area, while a fleet of NSXs were designated as official pace cars for the week. There was even the pink-and-black #60 MSR Indy car that switched branding from Honda to Acura, specially for the race.
Inside the Lifestyle Expo we were treated with some Acura history. Iconic Acura racing machines from the past and present were on display, taking up the entire main hall. Further inside we found a lineup of current Acura models mixed in with some classics.
Back to the race, we watched as Alexander Rossi led 80 of 85 laps, winning the 45th Grand Prix of Long Beach by a 20-second margin. His car – powered by Honda, of course!
