Acura Discontinues Production of TLX

It’s official. The news I’ve been dreading for the past year or so has arrived – the Acura TLX will cease production later this month, bringing an end to a remarkable lineage that dates back to the 1995 Acura TL. This leaves the Integra as the only non-SUV remaining in Acura’s lineup.

The current second-generation TLX, introduced in 2021, remains, at least in my opinion, still one of the best-looking sedans on the road today. With its relatively low production numbers, spotting a TLX Type S is rare, which only adds to its head-turning appeal.

Acura cites a “steady decline” in sales as the reason behind the model’s discontinuation.

With the TLX on its way out, the RSX nameplate is set to return – though in the form of a sporty all-electric crossover. Understandably, the addition of yet another SUV won’t do much to comfort Acura sedan enthusiasts like myself.

When I reached out to Acura representatives, as usual, they couldn’t comment on future product plans. But here’s hoping a new sedan or coupe is on the horizon. Maybe an Acura version of the upcoming hybrid Honda Prelude? Or even the glorious return of the Legend? And surely, an NSX supercar is due for a comeback… right?

Acura TLX Production to Conclude

Acura will conclude production of the TLX performance sedan this month to better align with the evolving needs of our customers and the changing landscape of the automotive industry.

The TLX and its predecessor, the TL, served an important role for Acura brand for much of the past 30 years – with nearly 1.2 million units sold. However, since the initial success of the model, sales have been in a gradual, but steady decline as consumers increasingly turn to crossover utility vehicles.

Since 1995, the Acura TL and TLX have delivered distinctive style coupled with various powertrain, safety and technology innovations. Across three generations, Type S variants of the TL and TLX have elevated the Acura performance image and created a lasting impact in the enthusiast market.

Acura is focused on developing the next generation of products that will continue to deliver on the Precision Crafted Performance brand promise. Earlier this year, Acura introduced the ADX, a new gateway SUV that has already become one of the best-selling models in the premium crossover segment.

Next year, the all-electric RSX will join the lineup, offering Acura customers a sporty crossover utility with coupe-like silhouette that complements the brand’s existing crossover lineup: ADX, RDX, MDX, and the all-electric ZDX. Furthermore, the award-winning Integra and Integra Type S will continue to carry on the Acura legacy of sporty, performance sedans — serving the needs of customers desiring a sporty passenger car.

    Acura needs to look inward instead of blaming it’s customers for the lack of sales. I have had Honda’s and Acura’s since the 1990’s. My 6th Acura TL/TLX is a 2015 TLX TECH V6. It has better performance, better MPG, and a smoother engine. The latest TLX’s are pretty, but overweight with no more interior room. I have been waiting for Acura to get rid of that godawful touch pad and maybe reintroducing the V6 in the TLX. It’s not like their not using it anymore (MDX).The MDX also lost the touch pad. If Acura paid more attention to it’s customers instead of their designers they would still have good sales.

      FACTZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ…..WELL SAID. If the TLX had more power, like 400hp or more, a panoramic roof, and the option of a 6-speed manual, that would be ordered only. A little bit more interior space, like in the leg room. The TLX Type S would have been the bread and butter of Acura Sales. It is a VERY VERY GOOD LOOKING SEDAN/DESIGN hands down. I hope you’ll bring back the Acura Legend Sedan, do it justice from the 1st and 2nd generation. I promise the sales will be out of the roof.

        They’ve never made a 400hp car and any car making that type of output is in an entirely different kind of class. With today’s economy and these ridiculous tariffs, a car like that from Acura would never sell and would cost a fortune. Acura doesn’t command a position in the luxury or performance market to even bring something that powerful to market to where consumers in that bracket would even seriously consider any like that from Acura. That’s a pipe dream. It’s like the silly comments I keep reading over and over again about the new Prelude that’s coming out. “What they need to do is give it rear-wheel drive and 350-450 horsepower.” I mean, come on. Really? LOL Okay, sure. ? Honda’s going to suddenly switch to Porsche level performance and change the drive wheels to sell, what? What’ll now be a $90k car? What type of time are ya’ll on? Y’all need to be looking at totally different brands. For example for the TLX if it’s that underpowered and that small, you need to be looking at S6s and M5s.
