When Acura’s John Watts handed me the key to my 2013 Acura ILX 6-speed on June 12, 2012, I don’t think he realized just how quickly I was going to put that car through its paces. By the time it… READ MORE →

The story behind the "FlatKira" sticker on the Gra The story behind the "FlatKira" sticker on the Gradient Racing NSX GT3 Race car.

I initially saw this post on the NSX Prime FB Group a few days ago, and after reaching out to Long, he's welcomed me to share the story with everyone:

"It's been a while since I last posted about losing my 6 year-old Kira Loren in February to cancer. The time that has passed since has been difficult but keeping the well-being of the remaining three other members of my family in focus has helped me stay afloat.

I'm posting again on a happier note. A week or so after my initial Valentine's Day post about Kira, I was approached by an amazing good-hearted soul by the name of Sheena Monk (through helping hands on FB, some of which are here on Prime), who happens to also pilot Gradient Racing's GTD Acura NSX in IMSA. She wanted to do something to pick up the spirits of my family and help us make some new memories with Kira. What that materialized into was hosting my family at the Acura GP of Long Beach and getting an NSX hot lap ride for me (holy cow the NC1 is fast in capable hands). If that wasn't enough, Sheena asked if there was anything particularly special she could do. I humbly said, maybe we could take a picture with "FlatKira" somewhere most folks wouldn't be able to, like the Pit area or just in the team's trailer. Sheena knew of the Flat Stanley children's books that inspired FlatKira and asked, "How about we make a sticker of FlatKira for the car and she can race with me?" I laughed and I cried because my daughter would have such a hoot if she could see her little self as a sticker on a REAL RACE CAR! (hearing her ecstatic shrieking voice in my head). So we attended the LBGP for the first time as a family, and it felt like it was the entire family of five of my dreams. From the stands we cheered our hearts out each time we saw a very recognizable nine inch tall Kira blasting by on Sheena's green and white NSX.

I'll let the rest of the story get told through some of the attached pictures. Also attached are pictures of Kira's grave site at Forest Lawn in Cypress, CA and a picture of how to recognize Kira's NSX if you ever see me around (please say hi)."
