Flashback Friday: 2005 Acura RSX Type-S Jet Fighter

For this Flashback Friday we won’t go too far back, just a couple of years to when Acura had two, 2-door coupes in their lineup. The year was 2004 and Acura offered a few sporty options, the NSX and the sport-compact RSX being the most obvious choices.

At four years old, the 2005 model year RSX was refreshed with improved tuning, new features and styling updates. The most distinguishable changes from the previous year were new headlights and taillights as well as a revised front bumper. The Type-S model also got a 10 hp power boost, bringing it to 210 hp.

In this TV commercial from 2004 we have two men who look to be pilots or aviation experts sitting at a coffee shop. They play a little game of “name that jet” as they hear planes zoom by overhead. Then, from a distance they hear a new machine rip through but can’t seem to match the tune to an aircraft.

No, it’s not a jet. “The Acura RSX Type-S, now with 210 horsepower. You’ll know it when you hear it.”

Instead of dropping the TSX line they need to make it into a two door sport coupe. I love my TSX and would love it even more if it was a two door. That would be rad!
